Competing on the Channel 9 smash hit TV show Australian Ninja Warrior was one hell of an experience and I learnt a lot about myself, my friends, my family and TV shows.
From the application process to the fitness test/training to the casting interview to competing on the show - it was one of the most exciting journeys I've ever had.
But what was the biggest lesson I learnt by competing on Australian Ninja Warrior? It might sound hippy dippy - but I learnt the power of truly living in the moment.. and why it's important.
When you are facing an obstacle you have to be in the moment and 100% focussed. If you are thinking about the last obstacle or the next one - your lapse in concentration will make you pay. This lesson is both literal and metaphorical.
When you are on the Ninja Warrior course you have to literally focus on what you are doing and not think ahead or think about what you just completed. Metaphorically speaking - the same goes in life.
You have to focus on your current challenge, don't think about your previous challenges - doing that will deplete your concentration and energy. With 100% focus crush your current challenge/obstacle in your life and then move onto the next.
I'm not all preach and no practice - so here I am living by that very lesson... How? I competed better than the high majority of the other Australian Ninja Warriors, including Semi-Final competitors, so naturally I was disappointed when I only appeared on the show for a few short clips. But that's life for you, actually, that's just television for you.
So what do I do now?
I practice what I preach - I move on to the next obstacle and challenge it with 100% focus.
